Friday 2nd July - bike ***** - Felixstowe to Nacton Shore for breakfast visiting Trimley, Levington, Bucklesham and Kirton – sunny and warm.

We were keen to try out our bikes after they have been into Pauls Bike Repair shop, for work on gears and brakes, the bikes were picked up from our house and returned a couple of days later fully working despite Paul having difficulty getting spare part, I blame Brexit, Covid and the Ever Given container ship still stuck in the Suez canal! Left home with breakfast packed around 7, another sunny, warm day with light winds, the perfect cycling weather and the bikes were going great, especially Mags with her new chain and cogs, no slipping today:) Taking our favourite tree lined path right down to the River Orwell by Loompit Lake. I was straight down onto the beach to take some pics of a line of motor cruisers heading out in mirror flat water. The lake was full of geese as we passed through Levington Marina and out onto the river path to Levington Creek. We passed the no cycling sign which has been all but destroyed by cyclists like us who do not agree that cycling should not be allowed no footpaths. We have only biked this route three times and have bumped into the footpath police every time out walking her overweight dogs who tells us that cycling is not allowed. We personally can see no problem with considerate cycling, in fact we think it actually helps keep the paths open as many are now very overgrown in places! We continue up through the tree along side the beautiful River Orwell with old barges and yachts moored on the far bank all the way to Pin Mill. We stop to talk to a lovely old boy out walking his dogs with a pair of secateurs actually trimming the brambles and he like everyone else we meet could see no problems with us cycling, going slowly and making sure we give way to walkers! We then sit on the first bench for our yummy breakfast with the impressive Broke Hall behind us with sheep grazing with impressive views across the Orwell with only a few dog walkers passing, just love the peace and quiet:) Well rested we continue past the massive Orwell Park Private School and onto Nacton village passing where our son works. Over the busy A 14 taking the quiet lanes to Bucklesham, long straight roads with a variety of crops growing, all coming along well now. We come out at Kirton before taking Candlet lane to the woods at the Grove. Then down to the seafront at The Fludgers and home via Bent Hill being out for 4 hours 15 minutes covering 22 miles enjoying every minute! Then after lunch spent the afternoon doing my exercises and relaxing in the sun:) The only negative is all the crappy sport on TV, Wimbledon on two channels and football on another, boring, boring, boring looking forward to it all being over, at least we can listen to our favourite tunes on YouTube again:)
